For race directors

Registration questions

What athletes are asked during sign-up. Two built-in questions you control with toggles, plus unlimited custom questions you write yourself.

Open the page

From your event's director dashboard, click Registration questions in the sidebar. The page has three sections: the built-in “How did you hear about us?” question, the built-in Emergency Contact question, and your custom questions.

“How did you hear about this event?”

A platform-managed question with a locked list of 11 options:

  • Past Participant
  • Friend/Family
  • Coach Referral
  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Other Social Media
  • Other Website
  • Run This Email
  • Run This App/Website
  • Flyer/Poster
  • Other

You control two toggles:

Show this question
When off, the question is hidden from registration entirely. When on, athletes see the dropdown.
Require this question
When on, athletes must pick one of the 11 options before they can finish registration. When off, they can skip.

Why the list is locked

Run This keeps the option list consistent across every event so we can give you cross-event analytics (“X% of registrations in your area came from Instagram across all events you've hosted”). Adding event-specific options would fragment that data. If a director-specific channel matters, build a custom question for it.

Emergency Contact

Toggleable Require switch. When on, athletes must enter their emergency contact's full name, relationship, and phone number to finish registration. When off, the field still appears but is optional.

Custom questions

Write your own questions for anything the built-ins don't cover. Each custom question has:

Question text
What the athlete reads. e.g. "What Run Clubs do you attend?", "Do you have any accessibility accommodations we should know about?", "Predicted finish time (mm:ss)".
Type
Short text, long text, dropdown, multi-select, yes/no, number, date, file upload, etc.
Required
When on, the question must be answered to finish registration.
Who sees it
Every registrant, or only registrants for specific sub-events. Useful when only the marathon needs a "Predicted finish" but the 5K doesn't.

Ordering on the registration form

The order athletes see questions:

  • Standard fields (name, email, etc.)
  • Emergency Contact (if shown)
  • Custom questions in the order you saved them
  • “How did you hear about this event?” (if shown)

The referral question goes last on purpose — athletes complete the meaningful registration data first, then we ask the marketing-attribution question after they've committed.

Don't ask for shirt size here

Use Giveaways instead. Giveaways have inventory tracking, sizing options, and tie into registration-flow constraints (e.g. T-shirts only for the first 200 athletes). A custom question for shirt size loses all of that.
