For affiliates

Joining the affiliate program

Earn 15% of the Run This fee when someone registers through your link — donations included. Request a code, get approved, share, and payouts happen automatically.

How it works

Request your referral code at runthis.run/affiliate (you pick the code — e.g. striders-club). Run This approves each affiliate to keep the program clean; once you're approved, your dashboard unlocks.

Add ?ref=your-code to any event link — for example runthis.run/event/cherry-blossom-10-miler?ref=striders-club — or tap Share on an event page: as an active affiliate, your earn-link is offered right in the share popup. When someone clicks your link and registers for that event within 30 days, the checkout is yours.

You must disclose the relationship

Every time you share your link, say so. FTC endorsement rules require it, and it's part of the Affiliate Program Terms you agree to when you join — for example: "I earn a commission if you register through my link." Put the disclosure in the same post, caption, message, or email as the link itself — a note buried in your bio isn't enough. This applies everywhere you share it: social posts, email, texts, group chats, flyers, and in person.

Not disclosing is a breach of the Affiliate Program Terms and can get your account suspended, in addition to any liability you may have under FTC or state advertising law. The full terms are shown — and must be agreed to — when you request to join at runthis.run/affiliate.

Per-event, last-touch attribution

You earn on events you actually shared. If you share a 5K and your friend also registers for a marathon they found on their own, you earn on the 5K only. If someone else shares the same event with the same person after you, the most recent link before registration gets the credit.

What you earn

15% of the Run This fee on the checkout — registrations AND any donation added at checkout. It comes out of our take, never the director's revenue or the athlete's price.

Practical math:

  • $40 registration → Run This fee $1.54 → you earn $0.23.
  • $40 registration + $10 donation → Run This fees $1.85 → you earn $0.28.
  • A 4-person family cart at $40 each → you earn on the whole cart (~$0.93).

Small per signup — the model works on volume and the long tail of sharing.

Payouts are automatic

Each commission appears in your ledger the moment the registration is paid, holds for 7 days (the refund window), and then transfers to your own payout account automatically — there's no cashout button, no minimum, and nobody at Run This has to remember to pay you. Set up the payout account once from your affiliate dashboard; identity and bank details go to our payment platform, never to Run This.

Your ledger never makes you guess

Every entry carries a plain-English explanation: what you earned, which event it came from, when it pays out — and in the rare case a registration is refunded or disputed, exactly how much of the commission was reversed and why. Reversals are proportional: if the event refunds half the checkout, half the commission comes back, deducted from your next payout if it was already paid.

Tax forms

Your payout account handles tax form generation directly. If your earnings cross the IRS reporting threshold for the year, you'll receive a 1099 through it — Run This doesn't see or store your tax info.

Talk to your accountant about how to report this income. We're not in a position to give tax advice.

Rules + anti-abuse

  • You can't refer yourself — self-referrals are silently ignored.
  • Refund-cycling doesn't pay: refunded registrations claw the commission back proportionally.
  • Run This can suspend an affiliate account for abuse; suspension stops new earnings and pauses pending payouts.
