For race directors

Coupon codes

Create discount codes for your event — a percentage off, a dollar amount off, or a completely free entry. Runners type the code at checkout, or you hand out a link that applies it automatically.

Where coupons live

Open your event's director dashboard and find the Coupon codes card on the Edit event page. It lists every code with its discount, scope, and status at a glance, and Create coupon code opens the editor. Each code also shows a live "Used by N registrations" count once people start redeeming it.

The three discount types

  • Percent off — takes a percentage (1–100%) off the entry price.
  • Dollar off — takes a fixed dollar amount off, never more than the entry price itself.
  • Free entry — the registration is free. A runner using a free-entry code (or a 100%-off code) pays nothing and no card is needed.

Comping a giveaway item

There's no "free swag" coupon type. To cover a paid giveaway — a shirt, a mug — create a Dollar offcode for that item's price. The discount comes off the entry price, so the runner's cart total lands in the same place — as long as the entry costs at least as much as the item, since a dollar-off code never takes off more than the entry price.

Discounts apply to the entry price only — never to giveaway add-ons or donations in the same cart. And because fees are calculated on the discounted amount, a smaller entry price also means a smaller processing fee for the runner.

Every setting on a code

Code
What runners type at checkout. Codes are shown in uppercase with no spaces, and matching ignores case — a runner can type it however they like.
Internal label
Optional, for your own records (e.g. which campaign a code belongs to). Runners never see it.
Applies to
All sub-events, or only the distances you pick. A code used on the wrong distance shows “That code isn't valid for this distance.”
Max uses
Optional cap. Once that many registrations have claimed the code, the next runner is told it's been claimed already.
Expires
Optional date and time after which the code stops working.
Active
Turn a code off without deleting it — its history stays intact and you can flip it back on any time.

Codes must be unique within an event — the editor rejects a duplicate. Deleting a code is permanent: anyone who tries it afterwards is told it isn't recognized. If you might want the code back, turn off Active instead.

How runners use a code

At the checkout step of registration there's a Coupon code box. The runner types the code, hits Apply, and the discount shows immediately in the cart — before any fees are added. Typing is forgiving: any casing works, and stray spaces (including invisible characters from a copy-paste out of an email) are cleaned up automatically. See registering for an event for the athlete's view.

You can also skip the typing entirely: open a code from your Coupon codes card and copy its share link — a registration link with the coupon pre-applied. Great for a sponsor email or a club newsletter.

One coupon per checkout

A cart takes one coupon, and it discounts the first registration in the cart the code is valid for. In a family checkout with several registrations, the other entries pay full price.

Usage counting and reporting

A code's use is counted when a registration actually completes — an abandoned cart never consumes a use. Codes at their cap show a "Used up" pill in your list; expired ones show "Expired." Each registration that used a coupon records the code and the discount on its payment details, so you can see it in the roster's registration detail. The Coupon impact card on your Finance insights page sums it up per code: how many registrations used it and the total discount given. More on that in registrations, charts & finance.

What happens when you renew

When you renew your event for a new edition, the renew form has a coupons checkbox: keep your codes (their use counts reset to zero for the new edition) or start with none. Past editions' coupons stay viewable read-only from the edition picker on the Coupon codes card.
