Email preferences & unsubscribing
You control which emails Run This sends you — by category, and even per event. Here's where those controls live and what each one does.
The email preference center
Every marketing email from Run This ends with an “Unsubscribe or manage your email preferences” link. It opens your personal preference center — no login needed, because the link itself identifies you. If the email was about a specific event, the preference center opens with that event front and center so you can quiet just that one in a single tap.
Signed in already? The same controls live at runthis.run/preferences, linked from your profile's notification settings.
What you can control
A master Marketing emails switch turns everything optional off at once. Below it, each category has its own toggle:
- Event updates — news and reminders for events you've registered for or saved.
- Races & event discovery — upcoming races and events to help find your next challenge.
- The Run This Warmup — a monthly roundup of upcoming races near you.
- Run This updates — new features and news about the platform.
- Director news — updates for people who run events on Run This (only shown if you've directed one).
- Checkout reminders — a nudge if you start registering but don't finish.
You can also opt out per event: turn off one event's updates without leaving anything else. The preference center reached from an email can additionally quiet mail from a race company (the club hosting the event), so one organizer's emails can be turned off in one place.
The unsubscribe button in your email app
Gmail, Apple Mail, and other apps show their own one-tap Unsubscribe button on Run This marketing emails. It works: one tap opts you out of that email's category, the same as flipping the toggle in the preference center. You never need to mark Run This mail as spam to make it stop.
What you can't turn off
Essential email about events you're part of is always sent and carries no unsubscribe link — because no preference suppresses it. That covers things like registration confirmations and receipts, plus race-week logistics, schedule changes, and course updates for events where you're a current registrant, volunteer, or RSVP. If your race moves its start time, you'll hear about it regardless of your marketing settings.
